North Shropshire 132kV Reinforcement

A coherent design package for the Oswestry–Wem wood-pole line.

SP Energy Networks appointed LDT as overhead line design consultants on the North Shropshire reinforcement—a nationally significant infrastructure project. Building on the Legacy–Oswestry Trident design, we helped route and design a single-circuit wood-pole line from Oswestry to Wem that balanced environmental impact, technical feasibility, and cost.

Challenge

The Oswestry–Wem reinforcement needed a single-circuit wood-pole route that was environmentally acceptable, technically sound, and economically viable within an NSIP programme.

Multiple stakeholders depended on coordinated design evidence that could stand up to planning and engineering scrutiny.

What we did

We acted as overhead line design consultants, developing route and design options with other key stakeholders across the corridor.

Deliverables prioritised buildability and practical programme integration at each stage gate.

Results

A coherent design package for the Oswestry–Wem wood-pole line.

Clearer visibility of technical constraints and environmental trade-offs.

Stronger alignment between planning assumptions and construction needs.
