HS2 - PK Line Swing Clearance
Clear swing-envelope evidence for each crossing under review.
SP Manweb commissioned LDT to assess swing clearance where transmission lines cross the proposed HS2 route. We surveyed each crossing, modelled conductor swing against the proposed railway and gantry geometry, and set out the options stakeholders needed to keep statutory clearances.
Challenge
Several transmission crossings sit on the proposed railway alignment, creating constrained interfaces between HS2 infrastructure and live overhead lines.
Design and delivery teams needed defensible clearance evidence—not just field measurements—so interface risk could be reviewed early and options compared before construction decisions locked in.
What we did
We mapped each crossing and modelled the proposed railway and gantry infrastructure against conductor swing.
Findings were framed against statutory railway clearances and packaged for joint review by engineering and site-delivery stakeholders.
Results
Clear swing-envelope evidence for each crossing under review.
A practical option range for risk mitigation where works pass under transmission lines.
Faster, better-informed interface reviews for HS2 and the DNO.
